What the Fuck does Angels know? In a desperate seeking for love one sometimes stumbles over real longing. This is the case with Wings of Desire - how can one not think of Peter Falk as detective must Wenders once have tought (and correctly so) and applied not only Falk as a detective but also as a fallen angel showing that a fallen angel is not lucifer, not a angel but a human beeing of lust and love (if you like). Wenders started out as a painter painting VERY modernistic and his first short film was a four screen view of a landscape with som railwaytracks crossing the screen - and nothing happend except that the train approached. And the, just before the train crosses the screen a man runs like hell just in front of the train bearly escaping it. Since it can look like wenders have on many occations tried to tell how could one escape the inevetible. Wings of desire is of course much more, made in 1987 just befor the wall came down it is also a historical document (wich I have but very little knowlede of) - it is fascinating to see potsdamer platz as a wasteland (with a old writer stating how it was in the old days befor the wwII). Great film.

Die beiden Engel Damiel und Cassiel kümmern sich um die Mutlosen und Kleingläubigen auf der Erde. Besonders Damiel (Bruno Ganz) ist so fasziniert von der Sterblichkeit, dass er sie auf Kosten seines ewigen Status aufgeben will. In der Kunst der Trapezkünstlerin Marion begegnet er einer schwerelose Sprache, die ihn berührt. Der Unterschied zwischen beiden Welten ist auffällig: die Welt der Engel ist schwarz-weiß, die der Menschen ist bunt. Und Damiel will diese andere Welt schmecken, riechen, hören. Die Himmelswelt spricht dagegen in einer schwarz-weiß-grauen Klarheit, die der menschlichen Sicht verborgen bleibt. Die Ästhetik unterstreicht unsere eigene Sehnsucht nach der Ewigkeit. Spüren auch Himmelswesen manchmal ein unerklärliches Verlangen nach Endlichkeit?
